So what will we be cooking?!!?
Family Chocolate Cake
Yummy
You will need;
PREHEAT YOUR OVEN
- 125g/4 n half oz Soft Margarine
- 125g/4 n half oz Caster Sugar
- 2 Eggs (i prefer free range)
- 1 tbsp Golden Syrup
- 125g/4 n half oz Self-raising Flour ... sifted
- 2 tbsp coca powder ... sifted
now before I continue I must say... that I never managed to get the "finished look" pictures as I forgot :( So I am sorry in advance!
1. So first things first! You need to grease two 18cm/ 7inch shallow cake tins.
2. Now in the cook box it says to mix all the ingredients for the cake into the mixing bowl and beat with a wooden spoon or whisk. However I like to add mine bit by bit as I don't have a whisk so it's slightly easier for me, and allows me to make sure their are no lumps etc so ... I add the butter and caster sugar to the mixing bowl and mix together well...
3. After I have mixed the butter and caster sugar I then add the eggs.
Doesn't look very appealing .. but it should look something like this when you have added your eggs.
4. Time to add the flour and coco powder .. Once you have sifted the flour and coco powder mix the ingredients together.
you should end up with the mixture looking like this.
4. Once mixed pour the mixture to the two cake tins. Bake in the preheated oven at 190'C/325'F/Gas mark 5, for about 20 minutes or until the spring to touch... I like to stab the cake with a knife in the middle, if the knife comes out clean it is cooked, if their is some mixture on the cake put if back in the oven for a few minutes!
You can make a topping and a filling for this cake... I didn't as I ended up spending the rest of the day playing with my little boy so forgot!! oops.. But my partner wanted to have the cake with custard so all was good!!!
If you want to make the topping and the filling here are the ingredients you will need and the instructions.
You will need;
- 50g/1 3/4oz icing sugar ... sifted
- 2 tbsp Butter
- 100g/3 n half white or milk chocolate
- A little milk or white chocolate, melted (optional)
To make the filling, beat the icing sugar and butter together until light and fluffy. Melt the chocolate and beat half into the icing mixture. Use the filling to sandwich the 2 cakes together. Spread the remaining melted chocolate over the top of the cake.
My fiance, certainly enjoyed it :)
Happy baking... Enjoy your cake.
Love Sara
