Christmas baking

December is the month of Christmas, which to me means home baking, and LOTS of it! It also means time together with your family, remember the family that are no longer here.

So what's the first thing i cooked this month?! ... cinnamon COOKIES!!

What will you need?

225g/8oz butter, softened
140g/5oz caster sugar
1 egg yolk, lightly beaten
2 tsp orange extract -- i didn't have any of this so didn't use it, however they tasted great!
280g/10oz plain flour
100g/3oz plain chocolate chips -- or your choice!

cinnamon coating
1 and half tbsp caster sugar
1 and half tbsp ground cinnamon - i also used ginger and mixed spice in smaller batches on their own to make a few different flavored cookies

  • PREHEAT YOUR OVEN -- i always forget!! line 2 trays with baking paper

  • put the butter and sugar in a bowl and mix together until light and fluffy! Then add the beaten egg yolk with the orange extract. Sift together the flour and salt into the mixture. Add the chocolate chips and stir until thoroughly combined.

  • for the cinnamon coating (or coating of your choice!) mix together the sugar and cinnamon or your chosen spice in a shallow dish. scoop out some of the cookie dough and roll into balls, then roll lightly in the cinnamon mixture to lightly coat the dough, flatten the cookies slightly with your fingers and put on the baking trays spaced well apart!

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until turning golden brown, remember cookies cool and get slightly hard, so leave them a tiny bit soft to touch! leave to cool for 5-10 minutes.

more christmas baking recipes coming soon.. so come back again for more family fun treats for christmas that not only with the kids love but so will that one special man in your life!!

sick tums & sore bums!

O my sickness!!!

Poor little Tyler has been a very poorly baby on Thursday around 5pm after a odd day of him not really wanting to eat and sleeping lots... The reason was no longer unknown! He had a poorly tummy!!

My living room went from messy in the sense Tyler's toy were all over the place to O MY LIFE... A scene the exorcist was now in my front room!! Their was sick everywhere! It just came straight up!!

Before long he also had a runny bum!! By Friday/Saturday it was just runny nappies but that's not really the worst of it!!

NAPPY RASH FROM HELL! I have never seen such a bad nappy rash that had developed in a matter of hours from Tyler needing his nappy changed so often! We had already been using sudocream and then bupanthen after that and NOTHING was working it was time to try something else, we called the out of hours doctor who suggested we try metanium!

And by golly it worked, it took around 12hours for it to really start noticing but Tyler's nappy rash really was severe! It was the worst time ever, to the point my partner had to do his nappies with me, not just because Tyler is very strong so it's hard for me to hold him still but he was screaming in pain as I applied the cream it was so upsetting!

In total it lasted 4 days and by the Monday he was a lot better, just still applying cream to get rid of the nappy rash but it is defo a lot better!!

So a note to all new parents.... MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THIS IN YOUR HOUSE -- no matter how young of old your baby is!

its not like bupanthen, it's a lot easier to spread and you really do only need a pea sized amount!!

Well hope this helps anyone in need of some nappy rash help!!

a milestone

Well very soon my little baby won't be a baby any more he'll be a toddler! And really he never stayed a baby for long!

We are planning his birthday which will be on the 25th November 47 minutes before is due date. -- just like his mommy never late always early!

He has been a quick learner since he was a few days old trying to hold his own head, holding his bottle by a few months, rolling over, crawling, sitting up, walking and talking everything has happened so fast!

Tyler's first tooth came through on exactly the 6 months mark however my lil man had been teething since 8 weeks old!!! He is now turning 1 and he is teething again but still has his perfect 8 teeth.

at 8 months Tyler started to really say words properly dada and hiya were his main first words but he now also says moma, nana and yeah. Which is adorable, he is also getting quite a soft voice -- (at times) and then he can get his excited LOUD voice.

He knows when he makes people laugh! When he know's he's doing something funny he carries on doing it!

At 10 months our strong boy was walking all by himself (unaided) and my god it was the PROUDEST moment in my life so far! It was just amazing.

He loves dancing!! anything that has a beat to it he's having a good go at dancing!! Its adorable!!

We love our little man so much, he was everything I could have wished for, he is amazing and what the future holds who knows all I know is I will be their for every moment, I will pick him up when he falls, I will protect him from those that mean him harm, and I will love him unconditionally from the day he was born till forever. He is my perfect angel, and those that do not care and are not in his life, they are missing out no body else, He has an amazing auntie, a BRILLIANT nanny and grampa and amazing dad! and a great uncle! He is the luckiest boy in the world to be so spoilt and I am the luckiest mom in the world to have such a good boy!

Saying moma' not only does Tyler walk but he has also started to say mam, ma ma and mom!! Agghhhh I have such a clever boy! He has said other things but for him to say ma ma! is just another one of those heart melting kinda moments where being a mom truly is the most amazing job in the world and the most rewarding! I just wanted to cry happy tears!!!!!!!!!!

Healthy Lifestyle: Where have I been?

I am sorry I have not kept up to date with my healthy eating blogs, but I have been super busy but am slowly getting things back on track.

I am still continuing on my healthy eating diet plan, however I do allow myself the odd treat, I hardly eat bread, pasta, chocolates etc. In fact I don't really eat that much chocolate any more... and my LOVE for pasta has calmed down a lot considering I used to like to eat just plan pasta on its own!!  Yea I know weird right?!?

I eat lots of potatoes and chicken, I don't tend to eat much pudding and stick to eating my dinner not later than 7pm with the occasion when my partner wants to cook.v

I eat 3 meals a day, and tend to snack a lot less. I go for a brisk walk every day now as well. Taking Tyler out in the buggy too :) Which he loves.

I also drink lots of water!!!!!!!!!!

Well that's a brief update for you guys sorry I have not kept you up to speed again. Shall try blog on my diet more often!! :)

Homemade Bread

Want to give you husband or baby a special treat?! Then try making some homemade bread and soup for the autumn and winter nights to come!!

You will need;

These ingredients make Granary bread if you want just white use 500g white bread flour.

225g Granary bread flour
225g Strong white bread flour
1 tsp Salt
1 tsp Caster Sugar
7g Sachet easy blend yeast
150ml Warm Milk
1 Egg Beaten
1 tbsp Olive Oil
100-150ml Warm Water

First thing you will need to do is Mix the flours and salt together in a large bowl, stir in the sugar and yeast. Make a well in the center of the flour and pour in the warm milk, beaten egg, olive oil and enough of the water to form a soft, wet dough.

On a lightly floured surface, knead dough for 10 mins until smooth. Put the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with oiled cling film, then leave to rise in a warm place until doubled in size. The dough is now ready to be shaped.

To make 12 rolls, divide the dough into 12 pieces and shape into rolls. Lightly flour 3 baking sheets. Place the rolls onto the sheets and cover loosely with oiled cling film. Set aside in a warm place for 30 mins or until they have doubled in size.

Heat oven to 200C/fan 180C/gas 6. Brush the bread with beaten egg and sprinkle with sesame and poppy seeds. Bake for 15-20 mins until deep golden brown and well risen.

Happy baking everyone!

I shall tweet pictures of my finished rolls later ;)

Henry 1; Tyler 0

So trying to hoover the house yesterday as per usual upset Tyler quite a lot ... he seems to really dislike Henry ... (henry hoover)

He just screamed and screamed! Every time I tried to put him down he was unhappy and very unsettled. So I ended up hoovering with Tyler in my arms... which was both tiring and added difficulty!!!

I know this blog is totally random and probably boring.. but o well.. Does or has anyone else had this trouble? Because Tyler used to love the hoover and my hair dryer for that matter.

o well never mind..

Love and e-hugs everyone!

Healthy Lifestyle; Update

So I have been doing this diet for just over four weeks, I haven't been quiet as strict as I should, however ever since trying Belvita Biscuits I have no desire to have cookies, chocolate digestives, anything :) So I'm very proud of myself on that front, as I normally have a very very bad sweet tooth!!

I don't know how much weight I have lost exactly, I definitely don't look as bloated as I used to. I put not loose a lot a weight down to the fact I don't do intense exercise as I can't find the time and can't drive so living in the middle of no where means their isn't a local gym! However I do walk almost everyday, If I can't go for a walk my little boy keeps me going! And I don't sit around the house doing nothing, I do housework all day everyday.... overly house proud and probably have OCD hate things not being tidy and clean! So I am always active I certainly don't sit on my bum for a full hour unless Tyler is having a nap, where most likely than not, I rush around doing things that I don't like to do when Tyler is awake!

Well my books have arrived, I think I had blogged to let you know, or at least tweeted? Sorry if I didn't... Have had a teething little boy who had 3 teeth come through all at once, and he decided to start to learn to climb the stairs anddd my partner has just started a new job which means 5 and a half days a week so it's been maddddd so yeah, it's been crazy recently!

I have started taking some gin seng multivitamins as they are meant to help with energy levels, and at the moment Tyler isn't sleeping to well.. not 100% sure.

Well that said must be off, Time to chill as Tyler has finally settled for bed. So G'night people, fellow bloggers!

Tyler's Room Is Tyler's Room...

So I went on a cleaning spree and re-sorted Tyler's Book shelf etc. After all my hard work to tidy Tyler thought it was his turn...

So he caught me with the camera as he started his handy work...

But was happy enough to carry on

Still organizing.. Clearly my tidying skills aren't up to par.

"All these books are meant to be on the floor mom"

Almost sorted out this mess mom made...

Now that is much better ... Just leave it like this please mom!

My cute little boy clearing everything from the middle shelf and from the top slightly. hehe. Never mind less than 5minutes of time for me to sort, Must have been a lot of concentration for Tyler, and he was pretty happy with himself after.

Yours Sara & Tyler

Hi ho Hi ho it's up the stairs we go....

So a couple weeks ago, Tyler had decided he would face the all mighty stair case!! and Climb the wooden hill! Which first time round he did it with no problem at all! Which in one way was amazing because he can't even walk, but on the other had it is very worrying.. We haven't yet been able to get another stair gate for the bottom of the stairs, and it takes Tyler seconds for me to have turned around and he is already at the bottom getting ready to climb all over again! When we do have a stair gate I think I will relax a bit more. One thing my mom and dad said I should do .. Was at bed time make him climb up (with me right behind him) and it'll soon ware him out to go straight to sleep! hehe

Love my little boy so much he is so clever! It's unreal! He'll be 8months in less than 10days! Where does all that time go???

Yours Sara & Tyler

Dino Cake!

I am a really really organised, and slight perfectionist, so for Tyler's birthday I have decided I want to do a Dinosaur Cake!! As we are thinking that's what the theme will be! So I have already started to practice making the cake!!

I'll put the link at the bottom of the page of where I found the cake shape etc.

For the cake I use a chocolate sponge the ingredients and recipe are;

1 and 1/2 of "all purpose flour" I used Self raising Flour.
3 tablespoons of unsweetened coco powder
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup of sugar
2 teaspoons of vanilla essence
3/4 cups of milk
3/4 cups of butter
2 eggs

Preheat the oven to 350 deg F (gas mark 4 or 180 deg C)
Grease a 9 inch 23cm tin ( i manage to split the mixture into 2 cake tins)
Mix the flour, coco powder, baking powder, sugar and vanilla essence into a bowl
Melt the butter at low heat and add to the other ingredients. Then add milk and eggs.
Mix everything together until smooth
The pop in the oven for about 30minutes or until a knife comes out clean, when pocked in the middle of the cake.

After that I then make the dinosaur. click here

Here are my pictures.

Then get creative!
